The Backhoe Loaders We Stock
Four-wheel-drive backhoes that dig, load and travel between jobs. Common models include the Caterpillar 416, 420 and 430, John Deere 310 and 410, Case 580 Super N and 590, JCB 3CX and New Holland B95.
What to Check on a Used Backhoe
- Swing frame and kingpost. Look for cracks and play. The swing should stop crisply, without a clunk at each end.
- Extendahoe. If it has an extendable dipper, check the wear pads and slide for slop.
- Stabilizers. Put the machine up on its outriggers and make sure they hold without settling.
- Loader end. Bucket pins, lift arm pins and whether a loaded bucket holds without drifting.
- Transmission and 4WD. Check the shuttle in forward and reverse and make sure four-wheel drive engages.
- Controls. Pilot or mechanical, and whether there’s a pattern changer if your operators run a different pattern.
Used Backhoe Loader Questions
Do I need an extendahoe?
An extendable dipper adds a few feet of reach and depth without moving the machine. It’s worth having for utility trenching and digging around obstacles. If you mostly load and do light digging, a standard stick saves weight and wear points.
Are your backhoes four-wheel drive?
Most of the backhoes we sell are 4WD. Each listing states whether the machine is 2WD or 4WD.
Can a backhoe be driven between jobs?
Short distances, yes; it’s one of the backhoe’s strengths. For longer moves, haul it on a trailer. We can load it for you here in Richmond.
